Bio

Mr Aguirre's investment banking career started in 1980 with Chase Manhattan in Spain, where he was promoted to General Manager of the Chase Office in Spain, with only 31 years old. From 1987 to 1994 Mr Aguirre worked for Goldman Sachs in London. Mr Aguirre joined Merrill Lynch in London in 1994 to develop Merrill Lynchs' investment Banking presence in Spain and Portugal and after two years he was appointed CEO of Merrill Lynch for the Iberian Peninsula. In 2001 he was appointed sole head of Investment Banking for EMEA and Co-Head of the Global Industries and Communications Division of Investment Banking with management responsibility for this group globally, including the Americas and Asia-Pacific. After two years Mr Aguirre became Chairman of Investment Banking for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), covering as Senior Banker a large number of clients across Europe, with a special focus in Spain and Portugal. From 1997-2000 he was a member of the Board of the Madrid Stock Exchange. Mr Aguirre has a Business and Economics degree from the University of Madrid and an MBA from IE. He attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School in 1999.
