Bio

David A. Vise, Senior Advisor, joined the New Mountain team in July 2008. Previously Mr. Vise was a reporter for The Washington Post, where he worked for 22 years and won a Pulitzer Prize. While at The Washington Post, he covered the FBI, the Justice Department, the SEC, Wall Street and numerous other financial and national beats. Mr. Vise also served as Senior Commentator for Breakingviews.com where his commentary, delivered in real time via email and featured in The Wall Street Journal and newspapers across Europe and Asia, focused on media and technology, including Google, Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, Microsoft, News Corp., Time Warner, and the impact of policy on financial markets. In addition, Mr. Vise served as advisor to a value-oriented public equity fund. Prior to The Washington Post, Mr. Vise served in the merger department of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Vise is the author of two bestsellers, The Google Story and The Bureau and the Mole, and two popular titles, Eagle on the Street, based on the four-part Post series, "The Man from Wall Street: John Shad's Reign at the SEC," which won the 1990 Pulitzer Prize, and Sweet Redemption: How Gary Williams and Maryland Beat Death and Despair to Win the NCAA Basketball Championship. In Washington, Mr. Vise volunteered at Children's Hospital, Martha's Table Shelter and in a literacy program in the District of Columbia Public Schools. He also served as an advisor to the Head of Sidwell Friends School. Mr. Vise is past president and a director of Washington Hebrew Congregation, and a director of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, where he focuses on interfaith relations. A 1982 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Vise has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School (class of 1983), received an Honorary Doctorate of Literary Letters from Cumberland University, and studied at the London School of Economics.
