Derek H. Whang is a Vice President focused on U.S. buyout opportunities in the aerospace, defense, technology and business services sectors. He is based in Washington, DC. Prior to attending business school, Mr. Whang was a Vice President at The Halifax Group, a private equity firm based in Washington, DC. Previously, Mr. Whang was an Associate in J.P. Morgan’s Venture Capital Group and an Analyst in its Investment Banking unit advising companies on mergers and acquisitions. During business school, Mr. Whang was a Summer Associate with Redwood Capital Management, a hedge fund focused on distressed securities. Mr. Whang earned his M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with dual degrees with a B.S. in business from the Haas School of Business and a B.A. in rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley.
