New Zealand born and a qualified barrister and solicitor in New Zealand, progressed from practising and lecturing in law into industry, with an initial appointment as a director of Industrial Equity Ltd in Australia. This was followed by a four year term with Sydney-based investment bankers, Whitlam, Turnbull & Co and, since 1992, has been an executive director of Guinness Peat Group plc (GPG). Involvement in Ludgate/Ludgate 181 will help to establish a close link for Ludgate between the UK and Australia. Chairman of Coats plc. Also chairman of Ariadne Australia Ltd and MEM Group Ltd , as well as being a director of various other public companies outside the UK including Premier Investments Ltd, Rubicon Ltd, Westfield Group and Tower Ltd.
