Bio

Herb is currently a resident of Toronto having been raised on Canada's east coast. Following graduation from Waterloo, he worked as a consultant for one of Canada's most prestigious management consultants, Woods Gordon (now Ernst & Young) with areas of specialization covering performance management systems, managerial assessment and recruitment strategies, and worker productivity enhancement programs. His clients included Air Canada, Toronto Transit Authority, Philips Electronics, Honeywell, Ampitrol as well as various government ministries. In 1982, Herb was a co-founder of Sigma Security Systems, one of the world's first electronic article surveillance companies, with BVP Managing Partner Daryl Yurek. Sigma was one of the first industrial companies to be listed on the Vancouver Stock Exchange. Later in 1985, Herb and Daryl co-founded Destron Technologies, one of the first radio frequency identification technology companies. Destron was initially listed on the Alberta Stock Exchange, then migrated to the Vancouver Stock Exchange and then to NASDAQ. (The Alberta and Vancouver Stock Exchanges have now become part of the Toronto Stock Exchange's TSX Venture Exchange.) In 1988, Herb obtained the distribution rights for Destron's animal identification technology in Canada and created Anitech Enterprises, which then implemented a national program of pet microchip identification and recovery services. Anitech listed on the Alberta Stock Exchange by way of a reverse takeover of an inactive company and moved its listing to the Vancouver Stock Exchange. Prior to becoming a BVP partner, Herb joined BVP as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions. He obtained his B. A. (Hons.) in psychology from York University in 1972 and his M.A. Sc. in Industrial Psychology from the University of Waterloo in 1980.
