Bio

John Bresnan is a Managing Director with The Carlyle Group and serves as the Chief Risk Officer to Carlyle’s Investment Grade Opportunity group as well as a contributing member to Carlyle’s Global Financial Services group. He is based in Charlotte. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Bresnan worked with the Wachovia Corporation from 1995 until his retirement from that organization in 2009. Mr. Bresnan’s most recent title was Managing Director, Head of Global Markets Capital Management. In this capacity he was responsible for the management and oversight of credit and market risk throughout the Corporate and Investment Bank. Included in this activity were the corporate loan book ($100 billion commitments), the commercial conduit and all warehouse lines to structured products. This function was responsible as the primary risk manager for the business unit in the Corporate and Investment Bank including approving all large capital commitments, credit trading and hedging of credit risk. Prior to this position, Mr. Bresnan was the Chief Risk Officer for the Corporate and Investment Bank at Wachovia. Prior to joining Wachovia Corporation in 1995, Mr. Bresnan had spent twenty-five years on Wall Street, including 13 years with Lehman Brothers, where Mr. Bresnan was the Managing Director responsible for Credit. In this capacity he supervised a staff of 100 people in five locations in the U.S., Europe and Asia. While in this capacity he was a member of all underwriting commitment committees and the credit representative of the firm Risk Committee. Mr. Bresnan graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in economics.
