Bio

Mr. McDermott is responsible for strategic analyses, managing deal origination and investor relations as well as overall Cadent management. He has been involved in the energy business since 1979, primarily as an investor of private equity capital on behalf of institutional investors. His experience extends through many sectors of the energy industry including oil and gas exploration and production, oilfield services, natural gas transmission, petroleum products distribution and electric power generation and related service companies. From 2001 to 2003, he was a Managing Partner of RBC Capital Partners. In that capacity, he was responsible for the formation and management of the RBC Energy Fund. From 1996 to 2001, Mr. McDermott formed Energy Investment Corporation (“EIC”), a consulting firm providing advisory services to major corporations and financial sponsors. From its founding in 1980 to 1995, Mr. McDermott was a principal with First Reserve, a private equity fund manager specializing in energy industry investments. Most of the investments involved acquisitions of companies or controlling equity positions. As a Managing Director from 1986 through 1995, Mr. McDermott’s responsibilities at First Reserve included sourcing, investing capital in and managing the activities of portfolio companies. He was involved in over 20 investment transactions and initiated several growth strategies. He is currently a director of Argos Utilities Corporation, Logan International, Inc., Nytis Exploration Company and NuCore Energy, LLC. Mr. McDermott holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Wesleyan University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
