Bio

Dr. Cape is a Senior Partner at PureTech Ventures. Dr. Cape is recognized as one of the fathers of the biotechnology industry. He was the co-founder of Cetus Corporation, where he was chairman for 20 years and CEO for 13 years until the company merged with Chiron Corporation. Cetus was a world leader and pioneer in genetic engineering and was particularly well known for its development of genetically engineered interleukin-2 and beta-interferon and for the discovery and development of GeneAmp PCR, the polymerase chain reaction. The true innovation of PCR was recognized by the only Nobel Prize ever won for work in a biotech company. Dr. Cape is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is the recipient of many awards and has held dozens of prestigious board positions in the public and private sectors. Since 1991, Dr. Cape has been an investor in the field of biotechnology and a board member of various companies. He was the founding chairman of Darwin Molecular Corporation (which was later sold to Chiroscience plc), was former chairman of the board of Neugenesis, is currently chairman and director of Caprion, Inc., co-founder and board member of Cellicon Biotechnologies, and sits on the board of several other biotechnology companies. He has served on the boards of Princeton University, Rockefeller University, and the Whitehead Institute at MIT. He received his AB from Princeton University, PhD from McGill University, and MBA from Harvard University.
