George focuses on investments in software, services, systems and consumer/Internet technologies. During his 25 years in the venture capital field, he has invested in 44 companies, of which 18 have gone public and 16 have been acquired. George was the sole venture investor in PeopleSoft and spent over 10 years on the company's board of directors. PeopleSoft grew from a start-up to an S&P 500 company with revenues in excess of $2 billion until it was acquired by Oracle for over $10 billion. In addition, he was a co-founder of several companies, including PeopleMan (acquired by PeopleSoft), Verio (acquired by NTT) and Website Pros (WSPI). Other notable investments include Brooks Fiber Communications (acquired by WorldCom), Corio (acquired by IBM), Netro (acquired by SR Telecom), SeeBeyond (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Octane Software (acquired by E.piphany), OneCom (acquired by Nextel), Chordiant Software (CHRD), 3DFX (acquired by NVidia), Octel Communications (acquired by Lucent), Intrepid Systems (acquired by PeopleSoft) and Metapath International (acquired by Marconi). Prior to Norwest Venture Partners, George was a partner at the Centennial Funds, investing in early-stage companies. Earlier he worked for Ernst & Young and Continental Illinois. George served as a director of the National Venture Capital Association from 1995 to 2000 and on the Stanford Business School Venture Capital Trust from 1997 to 2001. Currently, George is lead investor and serves on the board of directors of Rackspace (RAX), an IT Hosting Solutions Company. George also serves on the board of directors for the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health. George received his bachelor of science from Pennsylvania State University and his MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College, where he currently serves on the board of advisors of the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship.
